Gus, your path in real estate spans more than 25 years. What inspired the journey?
My journey in real estate started with the desire to create stability—for myself, for my family, and for others seeking the same. I’ve always believed in the power of reinvention. Whether you're starting over, moving up, or stepping into something new, real estate is a place where lives are transformed. That’s what’s kept me going all these years.
You've led offices in both Los Angeles and Austin. How do those cities shape your perspective?
LA is home. It’s where I live, it’s where my roots are, and it’s a market I understand intimately. But Austin is where I saw an opportunity to build something fresh with heart. Both cities are dynamic, creative, and bold in their own ways—and that inspires how I lead. I believe in building teams that reflect that spirit: collaborative, committed, and client-obsessed.
Your story begins in Tijuana. How has your background shaped who you are as a leader and professional?
My family immigrated from Tijuana when I was a child, and I’m one of eight siblings. We were raised on grit, gratitude, and the understanding that success is earned. That upbringing taught me resilience, hustle, and humility—qualities I carry with me every day. I never forget where I came from, and I use that lens to lead with empathy and purpose.
You’ve reinvented yourself many times over the years. What keeps you grounded through the pivots?
Faith. Family. And a deep commitment to growth. Life is full of chapters, and I’ve learned not to fear change but to lean into it. Whether it’s opening new markets, guiding agents, or helping a client navigate a life-changing move, I see every transition as an opportunity to evolve and serve.
What drives you in this chapter—as managing partner of The Agency in two major cities?
Legacy. I’m building something that’s bigger than me—something that creates space for others to thrive. I want to be known not just for the deals I’ve closed, but for the people I’ve helped rise. That means mentoring agents, showing up for clients, and always leading with integrity. The titles are nice, but it’s the impact that matters most.
And when you're not working?
You’ll find me with my family. That’s my foundation and my greatest joy. I also love staying active, connecting with my community, and finding moments of peace in the midst of a busy life. Balance isn’t always easy, but it’s essential.
